Front speaker recommendations...
I have an 03 ZO6 w/ stock head unit. I don't want to get crazy. I have Infinnity reference speakers in the rear. I also don't care to change the larger front Bose speakers either. Any selection advice would be appreciated. Kindly give a price as well. Thanks!
Ron

Easy now folks...I want to only change the 3.5" speakers....Thanks Scott! Is it even worth it? I thought the body of my post was pretty self explanatory.

Hey Bogus,
The thread title stated "Front speaker recommendations". The body stated what I have done & what I won't do.
Anyway, the thread you found is WAY over my head; too technical for me. I just want to know if these speakers, Alpine SPS080A 3.5", as someone else said they put in the fronts, would be worth doing for some sound upgrade. I just want a straight forward replacement.
Thanks! ROn

sure, it will physically replace that speaker just fine

Thanks! No wire cutting or soldering I hope...
When I put the Infinnity rears it was plug & play, easy. Will the Alpines make a noticeable difference? Thanks!
Ron
it's reallly hard to say. Frequency is controled by the source, not so much the speaker. I suspect it might help... but it will depend entirely on how the bose amps are crossed over.
When i still had my bose HU. I replaced the front 3.5s with alpines. They did make a difference in my opinion. They offered a much clearer sound and a lot better highs. I might be getting rid of mine if you're interested, as I've decided to run component speakers up front.

Like Ron, I have posted questions here because I needed some help and thought someone here could help me. We are all not experts at the subject WHICH IS WHY WE"RE ASKING THE FREAKIN QUESTIONS.
If you don't feel inclined to answer our questions at least give us a break and cut back the sarcasm.

which is pretty funny in itself as Bogus is assuming the C5 BOSE system is like the C4 system...which it is not
no external amp or x-over driving the small fronts or the rears in the C5, only the door subs. HU directly powers the ones you are interested in changing so any aftermarket speaker, and i do almost mean it literally , will be an improvement.
Just finished installing my infinity 3.5's(In stock at Circuit City) in the driver door. The door panel was a lot harder to pry off than I thought it would be. The bezel around the handle didnt wan't to come off either. Then I really had to pull hard on the door I thought I was going to break something. Once inside the swap was easy and I can tell a difference between the two sides. Not a huge difference, but definitely there it is a little clearer. Cant wait to do the other side tomorrow. For 40 dollars it is worth it.

Snake11eyes,
Which Infinity speakers did you end up buying for the front doors of your C5 vette?
How do you like them compared to the stock 3.5"ers. I have been looking to get better mids/highs out of the front speakers.
I am hoping that by replacing the 3.5" speakers will do that.
Any standard 2-way 3.5" speaker would be fine, just keep the RMS rating under 40w and they wil be fine.
If I had to do it again with the stock HU/amps I'd probably get these.
I tried to get Circuit City to install the Infinity 3 1/2 in speakers in my doors and they wouldn't because they are 4 ohms and the bose are 1 ohms and they claim that the amp would blow out the Infinity speakers and I would have to turn the volume up louder to hear.
USRobo,
I have heard that the stock 3.5" speakers (Bose) are 2 ohm from a local car audio ship (Car Tunes - Michigan). If they are 1 or 2 ohm, the volume would not be able to play as loud.
I would like confirmation as well.

HI all,
I just go off the phone with Crutchfield and here is what I found out.
Sorry if this is redundant information.
FYI...
Bose Stereo for C5 Corvette -
Front 3.5" speaker = 4 ohm (Powered by headunit)
Front 8" Woofer = 0.5 ohm (Powered by amplifier mounted in the door)
Rear 6.75" speaker = 2 ohm (Powered by headunit)
Supposidly, the biggest problem with the front 3.5" speakers is the mounting height. If the tweeter protrudes to high it will contact the backside of the speaker grill. The tech guy from crutchfield says that there is only 0.275" available for a 3.5" speaker to protrude from the speaker mounting surface.
The only speaker that fits this criteria is the Alpine SPS-080A (per Crutchfield)

Does this seem correct?

Well, yes kind of Circuit City told me the same thing with the Infinity's in my C5 with the Bose head unit. So, I put them in myself. It was a lot easier that I thought it would and the sound is pretty good. VetteEssentials.com has some instructions on how to install their door pulls which covers the removal of the door panel.
They said about $70 for the speakers, but they had close outs for <$40. Sounds a lot better, but now I notice the lack of bass a lot more
