Default bad ghetto blaster

I am still attempting to perfect my delco/bose stereo in my 88. The latest problem I have run into is this. Bad vibration in the doors from the speakers, even at low volume. I have had my hand in the door shell more than my wife lately, and still can't seem to locate the piece that is "vibrating". I have heard of some members using a sound deadener. Could anyone give me some info on this??? Where it is available, etc.

and this is why having several forums is not to good. Someone may have great suggestions, but does not "graze" in the proper forum...Just my 2 cents

I have read that the vibration is often caused by the grills/emblems on the grills! There are a few brands (such as dynamat) which, even if they don't cure the rattle do dramatically improve the sound of the speakers (it's amazing how much is lost when the speaker drives the door/grill as well).

It is, however, fairly labor intensive to do correctly.....

this is why you name your topic correctly stating your problem...and not with a name that most people will just skip over...not everyone has time to read ALL posts

you have to figure out what is vibrating inside your door before you can dampen it...just applying sound deadening to the door will not cure it if something is vibrating internally

deiaggie is correct. The best thing to do is make the speakers vibrate and then start investigating. You can pretty much just start putting your hands on everything till you stop the vibration. Once you find it you can determine an approiate repair. Honestly there are way too many parts inside your door for anyone on a forum to tell you exactly what it is. You can get some hints on what to look for...in the end it will be you finding it.

On another note. Speakers are alot like tires. If your tires are spinning you are wasting energy. If what you have the speaker mounted to is flexing you are wasting energy. All the energy should be directed forward.

thanks for the tips. I purchased some of the dynamat squares, but the tech told me the same thing. Don't expect these to work well, because fiberglass doesn't rattle. I took the door panel off, and it still had the noise, so I was able to eliminate that. I stuck my hand inside the door, and have touched as much as I can, but can't locate the rattle. The speaker I removed from the box, and naturally the rattle stopped, so the speaker is fine. It seems that would leave the speaker box, but I have pushed and pulled on that and the rattle is still there. Like you guys say, I guess it's a process of elimination and a true PITA to locate. Thanks again!!
