Default Radar Detector Help Please

Well I think with my new C6 its time to buy a radar detector. Not like I speed all the time but you know the deal. I was looking at the Escort 8500 and Solo S2. I dont know much about how these work and would like some of you to explain alittle about them. The box didnt tell much on how to set them up or place them so I am confused about how they operate.

Thanks for the help.

Are you buying this for the open Highway or the city streets....
Now-a-days the police are using Lidar... basically, by the time it tells you the police are near, its too late, you have been caught...
Now the Highway patrol is still using Radar... if they leave it on, these devices work great as a early warning system. Good luck

i have had a bunch of them and the best without question is the Valentine 1 . the big difference... are the arrows that point to the direction of trouble.

If you want something cheap and easy go with the Silver Bullet. It runs on batteries or plugs into your cig lighter. Autogeek.com sells them for 170.00 but you can pick one up at Costco for 85 bucks.

If you want something top of the line go with Valentine One. It will be more complicated to install tho.

I don't know which system is the best so I won't tell you how great the V-1 is... maybe someday I'll get the 8500 for the other car and test them both.

I can tell you that the V1 works very well and I am hooked on the arrows. I hardwired it into the car and mounted it to the left of the rearview mirror. You can't see it from the front and with the visor down you can't see it at all. I also wired the remote unit into the ashtray area so I can use the V1 at night without anyone seeing the lights.

The install wasn't too bad. I am a mod "rock" and even I could figure out the instructions. Very clean look with the wires routed behind the body panels.

Great system. A lot of coin.

Good luck.

I hate battery powered detectors. I had an old Solo a few years back, and it was annoying. The batteries went south, do did the units effectiveness.

I have owned a V1 since 1998, and I love it.

Some will bitch about minor things (and one will bitch about bad customer service ) but they are nothing compared with the fact that it is the best thing on the market.

www.radartest.com is a joke... the dude is a hired gun in the radardetector biz and constantly berates the V1 for piddly crap. It's cause Valentine never hired him.

The industry is cut throat. They have to pick on minor details anymore... and the bottom line? no one else has arrows and a rear antenna.

The V1 rocks.

My V1 story:

March, 2001. Driving to FL for the 12 hours of Sebring. I am in South Carolina, just inside the boarder from NC.

The median strips there are very wide and low, also, have many trees and some open spaces. Rather pretty, really.

I am approaching strong, multiple radar signals. It's all to the front. As I near a cluster of trees, bam! speed trap (I have long since slowed - had over a minutes warning!).

Several vehicles are pulled over. As we clear, everyone starts to speed up, but I am still getting strong rear signals. Less than a mile south, I am still getting the rear signals, 3 bars or so, when a new signal appears, quickly, to the front!

It's ANOTHER SPEED TRAP!!!! Some of those who sped up, thinking they were safe, were nailed, and I just motored through.

Don't tell me the arrows and bogey counter do not work.
