This may be a stupid question
I mounted my read 6x9 speakers and forgot to check which wire is hooked to posetive and which is negative.
Is there a way I can tell without taking the speakers out?
If I put a meter on the wires will it register differently one way from the other?

Grab a battery (9 volt will work, or I use a battery from a portable drill) and connect it to the cable. If you connect it the speaker will either move forward or backwards.
If the speaker moves forward than you have the right polarity of the wires to the battery. If it's backwards then you have them switched.
IE: connect wire 1 to + on battery and wire 2 to - on battery. If it goes forward than wire 1 is the positive. If it move backwards than wire 2 is positive.

Just to clarify in my own words to make sure I understand.
If you connect the + wire to the + terminal on the battery and the - wire to the - terminal on the battery the speaker will move towards the grill?

you don't need that much voltage... a C cell will do the same thing.
the name for this tool is a "Speaker Popper". It pops, and you know which speaker you have and what polarity the wires are!
