I just re-installed my Bose HU into my 1991 ZR-1 after having the CD repaired. I also had the right-front speaker amp replaced.
The system powered right up and was playing the CD & radio A-OK through all four speakers locations. Everything was sounding good for about two minutes.
.....Now here is the weird part......
With the system still playing a CD, I got out of the car and pressed the rear hatch opening switch in the driver's door. I wanted to check out the sound coming from the rear speakers.
As I pressed the rear hatch switch, both rear speakers and the left front speaker quit. The right front speaker (with the new amp) continued to play...., for about another minute and then it went dead.
No popping..., No cracking..., No Nothing...., Complete Silence!
The HU was still playing the CD. I switched over to the radio and still no sound at all from any of the speakers.
gee... bad relay somewhere? I don't see a relationship between the bose and the hatch release...
I will have to check my helm manual to make sure, tho.
Bogus,
Disregarding the hatch switch (maybe just a odd circumstance) what would cause all four speakers to just go silent?
BTW, all four speakers had replacement amps installed in the past few years by the previous owner. The right front started popping so that resulted in the need to replace the "replacement" amp.
While I admire an orginal car as much as the next guy, I don't want to throw good money after bad while chasing Bose problems.
I had a similar type failure a while ago. I had been working in the care with the doors, hood, and hatch open. The battery was run down. When it reached a point, the amps and speakers shut down, one at a time. As soon as I recharged the battery, it was fine. Don't know what happened exactly, but figure it's the amps requiring a minimum voltage.......

Dang! That could be it.
I have had the car up on jackstands for a couple of weeks doing several things to get it ready for the summer. Prior to that the battery had run down over the winter and I recharged it. I've had the battery disconnected while I worked on the car, but it might be weak regardless.
That would explain why the speakers began their shutdown when I hit the hatch switch.
Sounds like its time to get a new battery anyway. That could fix my Bose from Hell issue.
I've had just about all I can take from my Blows system. It's very middy and dead sounding. Then there's this strange volume going up and down on it's own. I saw a post a while back about this but wrote it off as the SCV was activated. Wrong it's not that, the dam thing just floats up and down in volume, mostly at high listening levels.
Other than try to fix this sub par sound system I'm just gonna rip it all out and install a real stereo system. I'll keep the factory stuff stored away in case I ever want to sell the car. Aftermarket systems seem to do nothing for the value of the car.
