I have tried researching this, but my mind is boggled with all of the information that is out there. I have a fostgate Punch 601s amp, which is a 2 channel 1200 watt amp (600 RMS). My question is, what is the wattage of the sub I should be looking at. I was initially interested in the JL Audio 10W3v2-D6, which is a 300 watt sub. I plan on wiring the sub in serial, which would put all 600 watts into the sub, I am assuming that I would have to get a sub that can handle this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
That sub should be fine. Im running 2 of those subs with a 1500 watt RMS amp. Most of the time your not going to be running your gain maxed out anyway. with most amps, HU, speakers, ect, You will start getting distortion when you are maxing it out. Also Its easier on a speaker to have to much power than not enough. Just set your gain accordingly and you will be fine.
What ohm load is the amp stable too? What ohm is the sub?
Guessing since it's a Rockford 2 channel it's probably 4 ohm mono which means you need to achieve that load with your sub. Dual 2 ohm coils, or a single 4. It is better to overpower speakers than underpower. This will give you better dynamics.
