When Im playing FM I have a hiss like white noise in the background that gets louder with volume, so if there is a quiet point in a song it sounds like crap. It does it even when the car is not running. It comes out of all 3 amps equally (until I set the Xover on the sub amp).
CDs sound fine. Is this just the nature of FM that I havent really noticed before I amped everything? Is there a fix? Would sirius help? Thanks in advance.
Im using Rockford Gold RCAs, all speaker wire is Memphis 11 gauge, 4 gauge power and ground, JL 8 guage speaker wire to subs, All connections are gold and soldered, Grounded directly to frame, All power wires are routed Away from RCAs and speaker wires.
i always ran a ground to the frame and one to the battery..also, check the rca's.... u might have a bad one...wiggle them a bit to see if it cuts out ..usually it's a grounding issue....
If it only happens with FM then all you can do is check the antenna ground. The antenna might not have a good ground. FM has noise in the background all the time it just is usually not audible. Sirius sat radio would cure that as long as you use a Sirius ready radio and not FM modulated. But you will not get your local stations.
It is only with FM, My Head unit is sirius ready but when you say FM modulated, is that the one that Is portable so I can bring it in the house ect? Thats actually the one I wanted so I could use it with my work vehicle as well.
Where is the antenna ground located in the c4? That would be good to check. Thanks.
There are new Sirius products coming out all the time so there might be something that is direct play and still portable available now. All the portable units I have seen are FM modulated. FM modulated means that the Sirius unit recieves the sat signal and then retransmits it in the form of FM signal. You tune your radio to the correct station and now you can hear the Sirius. It works but the sound quality is only as good as the FM sound quality. So in your case it is not going to be good.
The antenna grond should be a strap attached directly to the antenna body.
