I'm looking for a small 2 channel amp and I am going to use it in tri-way mode.
I have narrowed it down to this Alpine or this MTX amp .
Which would you all go with? If you don't like those, feel free to give me a suggestion of an amp that is relatively small in size, good power, tri-way, and affordable.
And there is no way I'd be buying from Crutchfield. I actually found the Alpine amp on sale at Best Buy for a c-note...
I'm not building a huge system, just looking for something to power my two speakers and a small sub.
i would still go with a 4 channel amp, you will have much better crossovers and you will be able to control the gain for the sub and for the speakers. that 4 channel amp is only 4" longer than the other amp which is not much
That is a hard choice, both are nice amps. Your intent will work but deiaggie is correct. If you can afford the extra 4" it would be better to use a 4 channel amp. The biggest problem with running an amp mixed mono is you have no seperate gain control. Often the sub needs more power but the mids and highs crap out.
I agree with the others, the amp is a very important part of an audio system and sacrificing a little more space will result in greater sound quality from your speakers.
it is not easy comparing apples to apples with a car amp....a lot of manufacturers rate their amps at 14.4 V. Cars fluctuate between 12.5 and 14.4. You will get significantly less power when the voltage falls to 12.5 volts. Good luck and take some pics when finished.

That is the upside to the JL Audio Slash series amps.
They have a thing called RIPS, which regulates power. So that output is always the stated wattage, as long as voltage is between 11.5 and 15.0 or so.
From: Frankenstein never scared me. Marsupials do, because they're fassst…and they DART, THAT'S crazy!
