You'll likely get more opinions if you post in the Audio/Electronics area of the General Corvette topics section.

I use a Valentine One in the Vert and a Passport 8500 X50 in each of my other cars.
I give the nod to the V-1

Passport S2 Solo Cordless. I think the V1 is great, but too much $$ to make it a good value. The Solo works, and has decent range (esp. for a cordless model). Laser is a problem, but you're kinda hosed regardless of what detector you've got.

I think the V1 is the best, but if you don't need the directional arrows get the Escort 8500 x50 and save some cash.

I have a 8500 in my Vette.
My option is any of the top detectors will work.
Just depends on how much you want to spend.

u can't beat the laser beam as it is pointed at u from 800 yards away.

I have owned my V1 for several years and have gone through several upgrades since the original purchase. It has saved my a** countless times. And sometimes you can beat the laser if it catches some beam scatter from other cars. In any case no radar detector can beat instant on radar or laser if its pointed directly at you.

In my opinion, you get the best or you don't play that game, when it comes to radar detectors.

How serious are you about avoiding tickets?

I like my V1. I used to think that the arrows were just "bells and whistles", but I believe in them now...

1-800-331-3030 and ask for a returned V1 and save $40-$50 off of the $399 price tag that it normally is.

V1 rocks, but there is this thing called "Audio/Electronics", and if you were to do a search, you would find that this topic has been beaten to DEATH.

V1 is possibly the best, but not the best bang for the buck.

If you decide to exceed the speed limit make sure you do it by at least 40mph and have a good mental map of all the "ditch" points.

Lately I've decided that 10-15mph above the posted (I feel as minimum) speed limit is not worth it. It does nothing but "enhance the driving experience". It feels good but saves little time. It matters none to Johnny Law that you keep good distance and are alert. They have no idea of real "safe driving practice".

So, if you decide to speed you must do it with conviction.

Plan your route and time it against the normal routine of your local law enforcement. Make your runs deliberate. Crank it up to 160mph, haul it down and let the adrenaline subside.

One run a month is satisfaction enough .

I run a V1. It does help on occasion but you must keep this thought in mind.... To a cop, "If you LOOK like your are going fast, then you ARE going fast" regardless of reality.

I've never had a ticket going 90, clumped together with 6 other cars.
I have been nailed several times when all alone on extended straights going 8mph over the posted 60-70mph limit.

Cops like the easy duck. And radar detection is no good at "instant-on" (looking fast).

My Escort 8500 x50 has paid for itself already just in fines and insurance increases, and I've had it for about 3 months now.

Escort 8500 x50 = 6

Cops = 0

V1 is best & I consider it the best value also. You can get a "good" detector for less, but all it takes is one ticket to make you wish you'd paid the extra for V1.
