C-4 radio replacement options
So the radio appears to be completely dead - time stays constantly at 1:00 turn on the unit - and the antenna extends - and thats it - no static no nothing.
I wanted to put in a cheap AM FM CD player - so I could listen to the news - and the ball game - listen to a little Commie Radio (NPR) etc. The CD will be for autocross and track days- play loud music - drive fast - have the video camera record it - yahoo!!
So I go into the local Circuit City - they have a radio that should fill my needs - but the install guy says I have a factory amplified system? and it will take a complete rewireing and new speakers to get it to work. I say why can't I just hook up the old speakers tgo a new radio - and they say it will "burn up" the radio inside of 1 week!!
So educate me - how much of this is correct? Whats the cheapest way to go about getting the basic functions of the radio back?

The Bose system applies the sound signal to special amplifier/speaker combo units by means of a 4 wire electrical system. If you want to get your radio to work you will need to either replace the original parts with working original parts, or rewire and replace all components as a set.
