I did my first sound system installation... basically front components and rear 12" sub. The fronts are Infinity components that handle 95W. When I turn my music loud, the sub delivers plenty of bass, but the fronts try to keep up and don't sound as good, they start buzzing from probably too much bass. I was thinking of installing bass blockers on the front speaker lines and let only the sub handle ALL of the bass. Is this a good idea and normal practice?
are your compoents amped or not, beacause if they are you can use the highpass filter to block out the lows and if they arent they probally could use it otherwise bass blockers could work
I'm guessing you still have the factory head-unit?
Don't expect to much in the way of 80 Hz and below out of your front speakers, even if it is a 6.5" woofer. The bass response of the woofer will drop like a rock below 80 Hz so. Letting the sub alone handle everything below 80 Hz is a normal practice and I highly recommend you keep the lower freqs from your front speakers, they'll handle more power with less distortion if you keep the low bass from them. Bass blockers will help some but an active crossover will be much better. It can be in the form of a HU's, amp's or a stand alone unit. The sub should also be crossed over to keep nasty harmonic freqs above 125 Hz from coming out of the sub.
The buzzing could be as simple as them damn factory grills. Be sure and press on the grill Blose emblems, they can get loose and bug the heck out of ya. Nothing a little glue won't fix. If this is your problem, I would still get a crossover as preventive maintenance and better sound quality. Your ears will thank you
