Default ground connections

where are all you guys running your grounds from?

when i finish up my system i'll prolly be pushing in the neighborhood of 2000 watts .. this is split amongst two amps (JL Audio [450/4] and a HiFonix [XX-Hercules]) .. planning on running a 0/1 ga to a distrub. block then split to 4 ga for the two amps.

what would be the best spot for grounding these? run a wire back to the battery? .. also would a 4 g suffice or would i need to use 0 on the ground aswell and lastly could i use another distru. block for the ground wires, 4 ga from the amps to the block and then 0/1 g to the actual grounding spot.

also where is the best place to put the capacitor? after the block and let it go for only the heavy sub amp or use it for both amps.

i've got a full diagram of what i'm intending on doing but i'm not sure yet on a couple of details.

... dang i'm full of questions today.

Thanks.

i grounded mine right under the waterfall, it works fine for me. dont ground it back to the battery, it'll most likely introduce noise into the system.

you should use the same gauge for the ground as you used for the power...so 4 gauge will dot he trick.

you can use another distribution block for ground

not exactly sure about the cap. i have one but never installed mine. i think you should mount it as close to the amps as possible though.

I like to do my grounds at the frame in the rear of the car. Inside one of the wheel wells. Also upgrade your factory grounds at the battery. Also helps to upgrade the line going from the alternator to the battery.

I installed the capasitor right before the distribution block, worked good, I ran my ground back to the battery, no problem with a whining noise

There is a power lead going from the alternator to the battery. It is easier to just replace it with a 4ga or 0ga line. This will help get all the current you can from the alternator to the battery. Also there is a ground wire from the frame to the battery and a ground from the engine block to the frame. Both of those should be replaced with 4ga or larger....I use 0ga for everything. This will ensure max current flow for the entire system.

Is the one to the block that little silver strap on the driver's side? Where does the other end of that hook up to? That thing is a pain to get to, I remember messing with that for the header install. There is also another wire grounded there. Any idea on that one?

Also, how are you getting through to the chassis? Drill hole?

Uh-oh.....I never grounded my kid when he rode in the Corvette. I guess that's why I was hearing such a loud whine from his seat!!

I bet the whine was RPM related too!

My car did not have any ground straps like that. I did have grounds with a standard shield wire though. You do not have to remove the factory ground you can add another ground. You can ground to a good chassis location and a good engine block location. What I mean by good is a bolt in a clean unobstructed area. I remove paint from the frame below the battery tray area and ground there. Personally I remove the factory lines and replace but that is only a cosmetic/show thing. It is really does not add any more performance benefit then adding another wire along with the factory wire.

EatRice - where are you grounding amps in the back. Drill a hole somewhere to go to the chassis?
