I just received my wiring kit and am going to install today. Question is, the amp rating for both amps combined in 110 (60 for the Rockford Fosgate and 50 for the PPI). I was told by the guy at the BestBuy installation center that instead of the fuse that is placed within 18" of the battery, I am better off with a 100 amp circuit breaker. He said that the 110 amp fuse would be very expensive and would more than likely blow out. Something does not sound right here.
Installing MB Quart reference speakers and am wondering about the following: 1) How do I attach the crossover box for the speakers to the door & 2) How do I drill a hole behind the door latch to mount the tweeters?
First off, the install guy is half right. The ciruit breaker is the way to go, no question. However, the breakers are more expensive then a 100amp fuse. He is smoking crack...
If a 100 amp breaker won't blow, why would a 110amp fuse blow? Makes no sence. Ignore him, get the breaker instead. The upside? you can manually trip it to do maintenance.
As for the tweeters, make a baffle to support both speakers inside the door speaker location. There should be enough space to support the crossovers inside the door, on the backside of the baffle. Remember, 8" monsters were there before, and you are only installing a 6" mid (which will sound 10x better, anyway!).
Good advice except for the xover location. It is best not to install the xover in the door but if you have to make sure it is mounted between the inner door skin and the door panel. Water does get inside the door and sloshes around. I have removed dozens of bad xovers that were mounted in the door and not protected from water. Your best bet would be to run new wires into the door and mount the xover in the kick panel or near the amp.
Mounting the tweeter can be done a few ways depending on the tweeter you are using. If the tweeter mounting cup is small enough to fit inside the door handle you will just need to cut a hole in the handle and then mount the tweeter. You can use a hole saw or a dremel tool. If it does not fit (like mine) then you need to cut a hole in the handle with a hole saw. I saw that because the hole saw will make a perfect circle. Then mount the tweeter behind the door handle facing through the handle itself. Unless you have some really old MB tweeters your should fit inside the door handle.
i would use a fuse instead of a breaker...sure you can reset it instead of replacing a fuse, but a breaker has mechanical parts and underhood of a car is fairly harsh environment and they can stick (yes i have seen the aftermath of what happened when a breaker did not trip cause it was stuck) if you dont trip it every so often...i would hate to have my car burn down cause a wire shorted and the protection device failed...fuses are cheap as well...look on ebay for ANL fuses...they can be had for usually $1 each...remember these are not things that you will be changing often unless you have a problem
i personally use fuses in my c5 (wafer style)
ive also mounted my crossovers in my doors with no problems and i drive mine in the rain often no problems and no signs of water in the doors either but i also made drains in the event that water was to get in as well as i insulted my doors so i guess im ok
Thanks for the replies. Very helpful information. I am going to take Eat Rice's advise on the mounting of the crossovers and will try to figure out the fuse issue. Thanks again!

OMG, run from that Best Buy guy. The only thing he said correctly is to mount a fuse or breakers within 18" of the battery. Wafer fuses are not cheap but allot cheaper than breakers. With those two amps, a 100 amp fuse should never blow. Depending on the install, I have used both breakers and fuses. The breakers are nice because with a push of a button, the battery can be disconnected. A fuse holder and fuse are half the cost of a breaker though. IMO, be safe and also mount the crossovers behind the seats, not in the doors.
Wow that is Beautiful! I am not creative like that at all. In fact, I am such a retard!!! I was ready to wire the speakers and noticed that the tweeters have a red and black wire. Neither of the wires would be long enough to reach behind the seats, which leads me to a DUMB question. Is that red wire supposed to be hot???? Or is it just a speaker wire that I can extend by adding new wire? Quite frankly, it is hot outside and my brain is frying! I guess that is my question then, are the tweeter wires just that speaker wires?
