I see that many of you have mounted amps in the storage bins. I want to do that, but can't figure out how to do the physical mount - MDF or what /attached to where/how ? car is a '96 coupe.
you can take a piece of mdf and silicone caulk it to the body of the car (under the stock carpet) then drill into that to mount the amps. This is reversable and you wont have to worry about puncturing any fuel lines

Scott - I want the amp inside the storage bin - do I do it the same way ? How does that work (caulk the mdf to what ?) for a horizontal mount setup ? Thanks, Steve

It should work just the same, you will also be drilling through the oem carpeting which will add the the structural regidity of the whole piece. you would caulk the mdf to the fiberglass body in the storage bin, the lay the carpet over that.
thanks Scott and Jeff.
As an alternative, what do you think - are there any advantages - about mounting it under the seat, using the same procedure of siliconing a piece of mdf to the floor ?
more dissadvantages if anything. poor air circulation and more apt to be affected by the elements (dirt and water). that being said; many people do this and have no problems. i wouldn't do it if there is little clearance between the heaksink and the bottom of the seat, but you may be ok if there is plenty of headroom for air to evacuate.

good thoughts - back to the bin for me ! thanks, steve

Any and all help appreciated, Steve
I used construction adhesive to mount a 1/2" piece of plywood to the vertical part of the rear hatch area. I then put the carpet back over it and screwed down the amp. I think it gives a little more usable hatch space than mounting it horizontally. Also a little less noticable - so as not to get stolen
