Would I notice any difference between the Infinity Reference series vs the Kappa series? I am looking at the 3.5's for the front and the 5.25's for the back and other than the obvious spec differences advertised, would there be any major/noticeable sound quality difference? Keep in mind, I plan to run these off an Alpine IVA-D900 and not an aftermarket amp. So with this set up, can you justify the added cost of the kappa's?
Hmmmm a $1,200 HU running either a set of $100 speakers or $200 speakers. That's a tough one.
Yeah I know, I know. I got a really good deal on the head unit and just couldn't pass it up. I wasn't really planning on upgrading my audio just yet, but now that I have, I can't stop. This is part of my therapy, do the speakers and then leave it alone. I get the sarcasm but not the point. $100 is a $100 so the question remains, is it worth? Other's have said that unless I am running an aftermarket amp, there wouldn't be any noticeable difference.
Proably wouldn't notice the difference running off HU power. It looks from your sig that you have a vert. I think you'd be happier with an amp and set of components. What did you have in mind for the front doors?
If I had a vert, I'd go with a 3 way component set up in front, and would most likely just run a set of 2-ways coax in the rear. I generally don't like rear fill, but with the top down, you'll appreciate the extra volume.
You can just get a 2 channel for the front components and run the rears from the HU power.
My point was the speakers are what you hear, they should be your #1 priority, not an afterthought. Most people tend to skimp on the most important part of the system. Give us a budget and check out the C5 FAQ sticky.

That's a good point. Since I am not ready to start throwing money at doing the audio, I went ahead and just got the infinity reference speakers 3.5 for the front and 5.25 for the rear. I did notice a difference, and you are right, with the top down is when I can appreciate the rears, but with the top up, not so much. I've seen a few people do components up front and will probably go that route once I'm ready. Right now what I would really like to get is the navigation system that goes with my head unit, but it ain't cheap either. Thanks for the info.
