Default This weekend fabrication progress . . .

I rebuilt the speaker panel pretty much from this:

To the following. 1st pic shows one side of the two part mold I made off of the mock up part.

This pic shows the final epoxy resin lay up tieing my part into the factory panel. Trust me, alignment, placement and all of the angles were a bittttch, I worked out all of those problems on the mock up part.

And finally, placement of the panel under the convertible deck lid and the sub box sitting in place too. The sub box is the mock up sacraficial part . . . still gotta rap it up and cast a 4 piece mold off of it.

I'd show ya'll the other portion of my weekend, but seeing a pink and white babies room isn't too exciting for ya. Our 2nd, a little baby girl, will be here in less than 3 months. With flares to build too, she's gonna get here before I'm done.

Thanks!

Tonight I'll finally begin the finish work on the part. I expect the finish work to take no more than 2-3 hours, hit it with some spray-can primer and in she'll go until I'm ready to prime and paint everything.

By Monday night (8-8-05), I'm hoping to have both sides completed and installed in primer form. We'll see how good I am at estimating the remaining time required to complete the speaker panels.

One question, was there alot to gain (better angle for sound projection or more depth) by relocating the speaker lower the way you did?

Thanks.

With the top down, they're not even audible, with the top up, still a little muffled since the factory location aims the tweeter straight across. Bottom line, I expect much better sound quality from my placement, I did tape them into place and liked what I heard. Sounded much better. But keep in mind, I needed an excuse to build something cool.

That said, I love show quality s h i t! If you custom paint a Pinto . . . it's still a Pinto. But add some personalization to a Vette, Porsche, etc. and you can end up with a real head turner. Some of the C5's on this forum are beautiful one of a kind show cars, and to me, it's the attention to detail that really matters, perfect stance, color, wheels, etc. You can't just start adding any of the available mods, you have to have a complete plan.

Making the car faster is much easier IMO. Take to one of the best shops and decide how much ya want to spend. Not too many modern car owners doing their own engine mods these days. After I'm donew with all of the show mods I'm implementing, off to the tuner she'll go for the icing on the cake!
