hi, i got pioneer avh-7500, cdt 6.5" eurosport, clarion srk, cdt 6.5" HD and JL 3W sub w/ JL 500/5 amp. how sould i set the crossovers or if that's to headache of an answer, what are crossovers and how do they work? thx
A crossover is item that seperates frequencies and sends the proper frequencies to each speaker. There are active and passive crossovers. Active are electronic and passive are not. Then there are three types of crossovers in both active and passive. Those are bandpass, highpass, and lowpass. Bandpass allows a certain frequency band to pass through...this is good for a midbass driver and midrange drivers. Highpass is good for anything but subs. Lowpass is for subs. There is alot more to crossovers but that should cover enough to get you a good idea of what they do.
Your situation can be very complicated or very simple. Your head unit has a built in active crossover and so does your amp. You should also have passive xovers with your speakers from CDT.
For your mids and highs I would install the passive crossovers that came with your speakers. Then I would shut off of the xovers in the 7500 and match the crossovers on your 500/5 to the cdt's. You should find out what the crossovers are set to from the factory. This would optimize your setup while still keeping it rather simple.
For your sub I would use the 7500's built in crossover and sub control. This will allow you to adjust sub volume from the driver's seat.
i still can't figure out how to work this crossover thing- there's no turning off option on my headunit it seems. and whenever i use the auto EQ feature on this unit, the sound ends up coming out like crap. the bass is way too high and it's already -10b (maximum) on the options for the subs. please help! i want my $6000 sound system to sound like $6000 sound system! :P
where are u located possiably someone local can help you out... as in another forum memer... turn the gain down on your sub channel on the amp to back the bass off
You can turn on and off everything with that head unit. I can find one of my old users manuals this weekend and look it up. I have had four 7500's and there is still one in my car.
Sounds like you need to adjust gains first...like pentavolvo said..turn down the sub. You should not have that much adjustment in the head unit. Also getting some hands on help is a good idea.
