C4 Bose replacement.
I've got a 92 with the Bose cassette setup. It works - but with no CD, etc., things have come a long way since then.
The plan is to install a double DIN head unit, new speaker wires and reasonably good speakers in the rear and front.
If memory serves, 6x9 goes in the back and 4x6 goes in the front.
This is what I know:
Bose replacement requires replacing all the speakers and head unit. The bose system sends signal level to each of the speakers - in turn each of these speakers has it's own amp to boost the level so you can hear it. In order to change any of it - you have to change the whole darn thing.
What I did so far:
I pulled the rear bose speaker in the car - no big deal. The whole housing comes off. The problem lies in trying to install another 6x9 speaker in that hole. The hole is huge. I had a 94 with the base delco system and the speaker replacement was a snap. Just unscrew the 6x9 and screw in a new one. How are you guys dealing with replacing this crappy Bose system?
Can I buy this housing adapter from Chevrolet?
just buy a piece of wood and make a housing?
Here's a pic:
