If anyone has installed an amplifier behind the driver's seat in a later model C4, can you please let me know where you grounded it and if you did anything special to prepare the ground point?
I'm thinking that i should remove the driver's seat frame and try to remove the seat belt buckle anchor point and ground to that, but I don't know if there is going to be metal there to easily ground to.
To make sure that I'm clear - do you mean the bolts that mount the seat track to the floor or the seat frame to the track? I've had the seat frame out a couple of times throughout this install, but I wasn't sure that it would ground back to the vehicle chassis. I haven't removed the seat track yet, but I'll do it if I need to.
I like the idea of running a ground from the battery at the same time as the power cable. What size should the ground wire be ? Does it need to be a big hog like the power wire ?
You running power from the battery, right? Just run a ground with it. It solves many problems especially in a composite body car.
Granted, i'm not an expert, but it was my understanding that this wouldn't be a good idea. the ground is supposed to be as close to the amplifier as possible and definitely not grounded directly to the battery. Installation kits typically only give 3-4 feet of equal gauge ground wire for this reason.
i'd prefer to hit a chassis ground point on the seat track/seat belt anchor, so I'm trying to find the best option in the area of the driver's seat. Hopefully corvette-pilot sees my question about his previous comment and can clarify what he meant about 'seat mounting bolt'.
I ran my ground wire back to the battery, I didn't try the seat bolts because originally it wasn't mounted behind the seat, you can see it is now in my pictures. Usually you want to run the same size ground, I do now, but I don't think you have to, the first system I did I had 4 gauge power wire, and ran 12 gauge ground which was only 6 in. to the body so maybe the distance made a difference. Grounding to the seat belt anchor or where the seat frame bolts to the car frame, so just in case it can't get in the way of tracks.
