I spent $400 getting my bose system repaired in January. All the amps are dead now. I tried soldering in new capacitors, worked for a little while then went dead again. My question is, what aftermarket systems do you have that out preform the sound quality of the bose system. I dont want to shake the car with bass or anything, i just want a good sounding stereo. What do you guys suggest. Keep in mind, im trying to keep the cost down.
Anything and I mean almost anything will sound better. You could rip it all out put in a new cdplayer and some coaxial speakers all around and it would blow the bose out of the water and not break the bank. And if you really want to sound nice and get loud you can add in amps and all the fixens, since you want to keep costs down this is what I would do.
And for speakers you can rip that whole bose enclousre out of the door and put a 6.5 or 5.25 in the door if u make a wooden bracket nothing hard something like this http://www.cardomain.com/item/INFREF6012I?vq_id=none
Those infinitys are the brand new models and I know if you look on ebay those and last years can be found for a decent amount less as well as other online stores I just referenced cardomain.com for ease of browsing. I actually put a very similar system in a friends Infinit after his bose system bit the dust and he said it sounds better then the bose ever did. So for a bit over 300 dollars you basically have everything, you shouldnt even need to run new wiring. Everyone on this board loves to help and the C4 faq offers lots of info. Personally in a budget oriented setup thats what I would run and it will outperform that bose in every aspect and not really break the bank, as well that CD player when ordered from cardomain includes the dash kit and wiring harness etc, u may still need an antenna adapter.
Check out www.sonicelectronix.com I order from them alot and just priced out the same stuff at 280 or so.
Ask questions I am more then willing as well as others to help. If you are in Illinois or near it I will help u install ur self its my hobby

I just had an Alpine cd/mp3 player installed. $250.00 total cost and that included installation with a Bose compatible harness which was required. I love it.
For the head unit I would get a pioneer with mosfet amps. Or a clarion, I think there cheaper players are around 150. Either way you cant go wrong with either of these brands. Both are major players in the audio industry. As for speakers I perfer infinity over most. Boston acustics also makes good speakers. Stay away from sony! If you want good clean sound this is what I would buy.
You could probably skip the amp depending on the speakers you go with. Those infinity reference speakers are quite good but I would use an amp with them.
thanks guys for all the help, i already have a kenwood cd player with the mosfet amps, i will check out those infinity speakers tho.but thanks again. ill let you know what i decide
has anyone compared the lowend boston acoustic 6x9 with the infinity 6x9s refernced? and what do these component speakers do that the regular ones dont?

havent heard the new BA's after I put my system in I didnt keep up as much. I can tell you I do have 4 5x7 infinity reference and they are nice. Component speakers include a midrange driver and a seperate tweeter that you can usually mount in different places. They also usually come with a crossover so you can set them how you like. They are better but usually more expensive a require greater power.
If you had the stereo repaired in January isnt it still under warranty? Same Day Audio will repair head unit for $100 and amps for $55 and give you a one year warranty. I STAY STOCK!
