I am interested to know what are the preferred models of speakers for a C5 that is keeping the stock head unit and amp. I am looking for a nice improvement in sound quality and volume. Could someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks for the help.
Depends on how much money you want to spend. I'd go with Boston Acoustic or Infiniti 2-way speakers. ( I have the bostons in my C6) Go to crutchfield.com and do a search.

I listened to several and decided to go with the Focal 165K2P components. I haven't installed them yet but when I do I will only be running a front stage. For subs I will be running two JL 10W6v2 subs.
I love Focal 165W's and the new replacement, but unaffordable now. I purchased the new Boston Acoustic Z6"s, 6 1/2" ( $1,000). Not cheap, but one of the best out there along with Focal, DynAudio, etc. I love the JL 10W6v2, but it can't keep up with the 10W7 in performance so I purchased that with the JL 500.1 sub amp. I also have an Audison running the front stage.
Yeah..like Cajundude said, you should put the better speakers/components in the front. Rear fill is up to you, but you should at least try to get some 5.25" or 6.5" components in the front, if possible. And get a nice 2-channel amp for them.
