I'm taking out the interior to drop in some insulation, and I hear it's a good idea to swap out the stock speakers while the car is in pieces. Any recommendations for $100-200?

For $200 ?
Might be not much better then Stock BOSE
Some Alpine Type R's would be nice in there -- they are $250 - $300
So if your staying with the Bose system you can change the front door tweedler with a 3 1/2" speaker and the rears with a 6 1/2" speaker. Mixed review on how much better than stock but I would think an improvement in highs at least. Do a search on this topic for some other opinions.
Well I picked up a pair of JL Audio TR650-CSI speakers for $100, closeout sale at a local GoodGuys that was going out of business. Now to find some 3.5s for the doors.
I'll stop by an audio shop and pick up the twiddlers. Any 3.5" will fit yes?
Pretty much. As long as they are not too deep. I replaced 3.5" twiddlers in a friends C5 with MB Quart Discus series. You can check the mounting depth on those, because I'm positive they will fit.
The high frequency response will improve. But don't expect award winning sound. Its a good bang for the buck.
I think Infinity makes two different 3.5" speakers, Kappa and Reference.
I don't know off the top of my head which is better, Kappa I think?
I have their Perfect series, no 3.5" in that line .
