Default Car dvd player question.

Is it true you can only watch dvds while car is parked? I've been reading on the crutchfield website about different car dvd players and they all say you can watch them when the car is parked. I don't know if they say that just for a liability issue or not. So if anyone has personal experience with this please let me know. My wife loves watching movies when we go on road trips and I hate lugging around the damn laptop.

I am particularly interested in this:

is there maybe a way to bypass whatever it is that shuts off the dvd portion while driving?

Thanks,
Tim

Back in the good ol' days before lawyers.....

yes you can watch DVD's while you drive....
however, most places for liability wire in a parking brake cutoff switch that means the parking brake must be up to play the DVD or aux game... blah blah. in my firebird the cable is loose enough that i can bump it up one notch and watch and there is no brake drag.

all is required is to KNOW the installer well so they can put in an Aux/ brake sensor cutoff switch that keeps the dvd - player on while driving.
you have to install it yourself or have connections b/c no place will install a dvd screen without the parking brake wiring "on the books".

Its all who you know and being quiet about it
good luck.

when i get my ivad transferred i will have it done but only cuz ive known the guy for 2 years and had him do ALL of my workto this day and because i am a VERY good client to his stores.

Thanks,

the best thing i can reccomend is find a local shop - and experiment with different touchscreens and find what works for you - go to as many places as you can to try as many out as possible- then you will find which has
1. the features
2. is easiest to operate
3. and which looks good (not to important to me)

THE only place i will ever go is Hifi buys.- i only go with top end stuff and they are the best franchise to deal with. i have Nothing but praise for quality and service and the atmosphere

if you cant find a Hifi near you, your best bet is a custom shop , but they may not be able to warranty their work nationwide like Hifibuys. but NEVER!!!!!!!! go to Circuit city or Best Buy for install- - you dont want to know the horror storries from there.

PM me if you have Q's as i have everything you could imagine in my "daily beater" and would be willing to give advice fron experience and suggestions for making your decision better for you

My son had a very similar Kenwood system in the Camaro. He grounded the parking brake lead and could run music DVDs when on the move.

The main problem on the Vette is that with a standard installation kit, the screen is slightly angled towards the driver. The passenger may have problems seeing an LCD screen without shifting across the cockpit.
