I am pulling my engine this weekend so I figured that would be a good time to run the wiring for the upgrade. Seems to me that it would be easier. My stereo project came to a halt when I decided to this first because I want to get some track times before adding all the extra weight of the equipment. In any event, the big 3 consists of what?
Run a line from the battery to the alternator and continue to use the existing alternator line right?
What ground lines do you replace? I know there is a ground strap on the drivers side that looks like a flat braided steel line. Is this one?
Also, I just noticed that there is one on the passenger side of the engine and another in front of the coolant tank I believe.
I'm of the mindset to leave the factory wiring alone and let it do what it was designed to do, run the stock car's electronics.
Simply run both power and ground wires from your battery to your aftermarket equipment. That way you know your amps will have all of the juice available and not worry about burning up any stock wiring.
Shawn not sure I am clear on your meaning with running both power and ground to your amp. I know that running a ground from your amp all the way back to your battery would most likely induce some noise issues and possible ground problems to your system. Generally speaking you do not want the ground from your amp (or distribution block) to be more than about 12" long total from my car audio experience. Maybe with the C5 and its fiberglass etc this would be ok ... would not be the first time I was wrong
