Is it safe to leave the V-1 plugged in the cigarette lighter with V-1 off?
Will it still drain the battery?

yes, it is safe (except from theives )
no, it will not drain your battery

PS The V1 comes with a hardwire kit, it is not that hard to install. If you don't feel comfortable doing it, a car stereo shop should charge you about $25 to do it. It gets rid of the ugly (and visible to cops) coiled wire. Another benifet, you will no longer have to turn on/off the unit anymore. It will come on/off with the car

I have the hardwire kit but for now I'm routing the 8 ft. cord from the top of windshield with cord tucked in to interior down and below steering wheel so there is no wire to see but I'm still using the cigarette lighter.
Isn't 25.00 a bit low ?? In California I will probably get charged the hourly rate $100+

I based that on $50 an hour and labor of .5 hours. But you are right, out in Cali they could easily be charging $100 an hour

OMG
Ok I did some more research, looks like I wont be getting that $150 install,
I read bugmans instructions (wow, they are great) and went to invisicords web site.
I already have thegreatlakes mirror mount.

I may try this myself after I get the teambiker wire harnass from invisicord ($14) or do you think that is something I could get at an auto or hardware store?.

No having to run the wires down to the fuse box

Thanks pentavolvo for suggesting I shop around

Ok whenever I do V1's or escorts I always just use a phone cord cut off the end strip the wires figure out what is what and wire it in, seems a hell of alot cheaper to me but thats how I do it. Its easy to hook up and all cars I have done i go to fusebox except C5 i did ignition harness if I recall

The V-1 has so many features that are so different than other detectors. I guess it is this detector that sets the standards.
