HVAC dimmier info
Saw several questions about the wire on the HVAC that controls the dimmer and since I'm installing a new system decided to measure it. The wire that I used is the yellow/cream wire, can't tell for sure on the color, located on the far end. This wire goes hot when the lights are turned on. The question that I saw was does this wire vary as the dimmer control is turned up and down? Well it does but it seems to vary in steps. At full on it measured about 11.50 volts, part down it fell to about 8 volts, a bit further down it fell to 6 volts and finally went to zero at the lowest position. Also, it didn't seem to drop the voltage the same every time I repeated the process. Hooked up the stereo and tried it and all seems to work but can't tell if the brightness is changing much as I go up and down.
So, this is what I found out kind of a mixed bag outcome.

Thanks fofr posting that info. I'll also add that I hooked into that wire for my Pioneer Avic D1 and while it does switch the unit into "night" illumination mode when the headlights are turned on, it seems to vary the illuminaiton inversely with the dash. That is, when you turn the know to make the dash lights dimmer the head unit gets brighter, and vice-versa.
