Default Notch Filter or Dynamat ?

I am gathering some new stereo equipment to install in my 89. I am just going to add a new head unit and speakers at this point and not adding any amps or subs. I just want decent sound and my old bose system buzzes and whines so much I can't even stand to turn it on.

I have being doing some research and I have read a couple articles that advise putting in a 160hz notch filter for the door speakers. I have also read that you can help/fix this resonance problem with sound deadener.

I am using 6.5 inch speakers in the front and 6x9's in the rear. I am going to run extra wires incase I decide to add an amp and subwoofer later on.

So I guess my question is, do I need to add a filter to the front speakers or would I be better off adding some sound deadening to the doors instead ?

Thanks

Scott

if your stereo is buzzing, theres something there that you should check out. Check your ground wires and check your plug wires too.

I am going to do a tune up as well, new plugs and wires. The old bose speakers sometimes take 15 minutes or so to kick on, I am sure they are shot. I am going to replace them with some Pioneer speakers and Pioneer head unit. I am also running new speaker wires.

the old notch filter....wow I haven't heard that in awhile. I had a headunit back in the 80's with that button on it. With today's signal processors/equalizers the notch filter is no longer needed as that peak can be attenuated that way.
IMO, definetely do some sound deadnening on the door panels. Here is a link to the stuff I use.

and yes, as above, you'll be way ahead in SQ/SPL of the Bose even with the Pioneer HU and speakers

Is there anything special I will need to install 6.5 inch speakers in the door ?

Do you have to gut the box that the old bose speaker/amp is in ?

Thanks
