now, heres my last delima.
the guy that owns the shop is trying to get me to to what he calls "hater vision"... a tv in the decklid....i said i would never have anything like that, but the more i think about it...it sounds ok. if im at a show and people are looking around the car, if there is a cool video or something on the tv (or slideshow from the ipod video) people might stop and look longer.
so, do i go with the hater vision or pass on the ricer mod...
wow...that is really nice setup... i'm not sure about the hater vision, i think i'd personally go without it and put the money toward an eclipse a/v gps head unit.
i didnt go with the eclipse because you cant get an xm tuner for it.
ah... then hmmm.... i don't know. it's kind of 'played out'
OH....maybe you could hide it? have it behind a limo tinted piece of plexi or lexan. so when you have the trunk open it looks just like a black piece of abs or something. then have ithooked up to a switch, or remote, or even a motion sensor and when someone comes close it'll 'magically' apear! you coul continue with that theme too. you could use black paint on the underside of the plexi leaving a 'window' unpainted for where the screen is and also the word 'corvette' unpainted above the lcd screen is. put some limo tint over the whole piece and some yellow cathode or led tube behind it. when you turn on the lights 'corvette' will appear too
so i'm changing my vote... do it if you can make it look different/unique/original

ok my wallet hurt just thinking about all of that....
i'll do it for you for free! it's really not that expensive. lexan/plexi will cost you about $15-20 the cold cathode tubes will cost you about $9. window tint... $10? vinyl stickers (for a paint mask/hold out) $30... installation... shouldn't cost more then molding a screen into the deck. i bet it'll take less time. c'mon!!! :-)
i can't wait to see your install, regardless. sounds really cool. one thing you may want to add sooner then later is an optima yellow top battery.

let me see how over budget i am on the rest of the install before i move to the lid....
already got the yellow top when my ac delco crapped out on me at x-mas!
how about this....do black plexi glass on the underside of the lid, paint the backside all black with the exception of corvette spelled out left smoked. then have lights behind it to light it up?
hey...isnt' that what i just said i guess it was lost in translation and the fact that i'm working while surfing the forum... or were you suggesting 'just' doing that... either way it'll be cool

just the corvette lit up in plexi glass vs spending a bunch on a tv that will not get looked at but only at shows.
just wonding how to disapate the light where it will be even across the entire word.
i think they ahve a spray paint that acts like you just eteched the plexi. you could even get contact paper that would diffuse the light. you could get some diffusing material to just place behind it, you can get a diffusing gel from any theater or stage.

i love the concept, but concept to reality is often a bumpy road.
another thing you could do, if you like those mirror finished panels that people use on there trunk lid, you can get window tint that has a mirror finish on it yet is translucent. put that over the top of the plexi and you have a mirror look with the glowing corvette text.
