what sounds best?

Is there room for an 8" woofer, 5-1/4" and a tweeter?

With a saw, anything is possible!

Here is how a 6.5" and a 4" midrange will look.

I went with the component system - 6.5 and tweeter. You can get the modded bracket here on the forum. I am not sure how all three would sound. As a matter of fact, I am not sure if a 'normal' 8 inch woofer would even fit in the door...

As stated above, anything is possible! Here's a link to another member's install where he custom made mounts out of 2 pieces of MDF and fit an 8" woofer and a 4" mid:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1189073

I think an 8" woofer and a 5 1/4" mid is going to be a real pain and not worth the effort.

I have a Kicker SS MB8 8" woofer and CDT 4" mid and 1" tweeter I'm going to be installing soon. The Kicker is shallow for an 8" and the CDT 4" doesn't have much overhang around the speaker, so I'm hoping my stuff will fit a little easier than the install I linked to. Of course I'll post when I get in all in.

I have some of vrumvrum's speaker plates coming for a 7" Focal midbass and a DLS Iridium 3" mid (it is almost 3.5" and the mounting ring is about 4 3/4") for my doors. In my wood mockups (rough by any standard) they cleared just fine depth wise but are mounted really quite close together.

I would think that a true 8" midbass + a 5.25" mounted on something resembling the factory speaker mount would require a fair amount of custom fab work in order to make fit and even in doing that I believe that you would end up having to modify the door panel assembly some. Without some modification you would probably block a fair amount of the 5.25" cone area due to the door panel shape.

If you are pretty serious about doing that sort of 3 way system in your ride I would look in to custom build out for kick panels or fiberglassed panels for the door panels.

I have Rockford Fosgate Stage One 8 inch subs and Clarion 3.5 inch mid/tweeters in my C5 doors. Just made a new template out of MDF and painted it black.

Kicks a$$

JL makes a 6" sub now. You an easily get that with a 4" component speaker. I'd mount the tweet in the door pull. Run it all from a 4 channel amp.
