Default door speakers?

i just got the soundgate adapter, and I am still not too impressed, the lack of noticable highs bugs me. I think Im going to get new speakers. If I do buy new speakers, do i have to rewire the doors? can i just use a regular wiring harness? I know there is a stock amp, but I tried wiring it up without the adapter and it didnt even sound like it was doing anything. anyone got any info

you'll need to run new wire to get a full signal, it's really easy in this car though

One good reason to run new wire is so you can leave the stock wire as-is and thus easily revert everything back to stock if/when you decide to move to a different car.

good point, this way you wont have to buy everything back to go back to stock. This is why i like the plug n play stuff, with little to no splicing needed. It costs a few bucks more, but this way its real easy to revert back to stock.

that statement disturbs me i JUST bought the gmcrv1, and was going to put it in this saturday.

I was reading over the soundgate instructions, did you have to move the black wire like shown in step 3 under the "Note:" section ?

thats why i went with the PAC. its a direct plug. just had to splice one wire to get the remote power. Not sure how the soundgate works though.

That sucks. Did your new HU harness have a wire for illumination? My alpine has a orange wire labeled 'illum' and a blue/white labeled 'remote turn-on' the gmcrv1 doesnt have leads for these. It does have a blue wire labeled power antenna.

Now the part that really pisses me off. I returned the PAC os-1 to get the soundgate! Another reason I returned it was the os-1 had the onstar stuff. Is the only PAC part I need is the OEM-1 ?

One other thing. did you get the GM Chimes piece? some people have told me that I need the chimes adapter, and some said no.. do you still have chimes without it?

So, without the orange ilum wire, what happens? The HU lights do not dim when you turn the head lights on ?

The stock system does not have a dedicated "tweeter" and without cranking the treble up on the HU your highs really suffer. I have no firsthand experience with the adaptors so I hope you get some sound improvement.

As for as component sets in the rear I personally would not recommend tweeters in the rear ad their sound is so directional you will pull a lot of your front stage image to the rear and most likely keep that weird "sweet spot" just over the right shoulder like the stock system has. But to each their own

Unless you are doing some custom fabrication, I wouldn''t know where in the rear you could mount the tweeters from a component set. There is just a spot for 6.5 or 5.25 depending on your car, and not a very deep spot on the driver's side at that. I put some JLAudio coaxials back there.
