I want to order one within the next couple of days but I don't know anything about them, is one manufacturer better than another when it comes to this? Looking for a 1 to 1.9 farad.
there is a huge debate on if htese are good or not, it said that you wont get any real advantage till you're in the 30 farad range. what are you going to be running, you may be able to save yourself some money since the vettes electrical system is pretty solid.
edit: just for reference...i have a 1 farad cap
but it's sitting in my closet. so i'm a strong believer that you dont really need it :-)
I have had my system at full tilt with the AC going and headlights on and wipers going and did not even see the headlights dim (outside the normal annoying dim they do). I have about 460 clean watts (not over advertised watts )
I get considerable light dim with it cranked, and the car volt meter dips down from average of 13.5 to 12 or slightly lower. I'm running a 1000 watt amp (total power) to (1) 10" and the (4) other speakers.
A friend of mine owns a car audio shop and swears by caps, so I got 3, 1.2 f ones for a 1k amp and a 3k amp with 0 gauge from the battery. The system was never fully tested tho because I got in an accident before I finished mounting the sub, So from experience I dont know how much they help but my friend has been building car stereos for the past 20 years, he hasnt failed me yet. iono how much that helps
i doubt tha cap will help, what gauge of wiring do you have, did you upgrade the big 3 and how good a ground do you have?
The power and ground wires are 4 gauge. The ground could be better (attached to the chasis by way of the drivers seat frame). It's a modestly simple system but all wiring integreity is top notch quality.
like Scott said, the C5 electrical system is pretty sold. I do run a 15 Farad cap in my C5 but I'm also running nearly 2000 watts rms. I also run 0-guage.
I would you would have no problems with 4-guage with 1000 watts. You mentioned the ground for the amp, that would be a good place to start. Did you also upgrade the chassis ground and the battery to altenator wires?
PS You C5 looks sharp Love the black with tinted windows and the aftermarket wheels
