Default Suggestions for new system

Just got my Z and I'm ready to upgrade the sound system. I don't need anything over the top, but I find the Bose to be severely lacking.

I would like to keep the stock HU because I hate the look of the mounting kits for the aftermarket HUs.

Would it be enough to replace the 3.5" Twiddlers and 5.25" rear speakers and keep the stock amp, or should I get an amp?

If it's recommended to get a separate amp, what should I do about bass? Is it good enough to upgrade the 8" subs in the doors or should I also plan to add a 10 or 12 to the trunk and instead put larger speakers in the doors?

faq

if you keep the stock hu (btw have you seen vrum vrum's mounting plate? looks great! also in the faq ) and just upgrade the 3.5" and 5.25" then i wouldn't bother with an amp. you can't easily or effectively upgrade the subs in the door, you either have to gut the bose speakers entirely and replace it with a good set of components or make due with the midbass that those give you. either way you will notice a big difference with adding a 10 or 12 in the back.

If you just plan on doing some small upgrades and keeping the stock HU stay with a 10" sub. They play up in the bass frequency easier than a 12" will and will help make up for the pathetic blose midbass that the 8" subs provide.

Adaptor + amp+ wiring kit+ subthump box+ 10" of your choice+ Infinity 2 way 3.5" and 5.25" speakers should make quite a nice improvement to the stock system and let you keep your HU.

I have pics of my install and a partially finished vrumvrum mounting plate picture at :

Hoping some of them get listed in my gallery here soon as well.

Congrats on your Z

I think you will need an amp to get better sound and with a JL clean sweep it will all work.
