I'm looking to do a big 3 in my C4. Can someone give me a breakdown of what this consists of? I've done searches, but I need to be absolutely sure of what I'm doing. Also, in each of these new lines, are there any fuses added? All old is pulled out as well, correct?
I dont know much about the big 3 either. I havent heard of people puting in any extra fuses. Yes I would assume that you would replace the old wiring. Alternator to battery, motor to ground. and whats the other. Did you try the DIY in the tech tips section?
I also don't know what the big three is, but I have 4 awg cables and a optima yellow top, pushing probably 800w rms and everything works fine. All you need is one large fuse within 6 in of the battery probably like a 150, and the only other time you will need a fuse is if you are using a distribution block. Enough wire to reach everything easily. And the amount of terminals you need at each end. I don't know how much or what you are doing so that is pretty much a basic.
I agree with Birch, but with one amendment you should generally fuse near the amp as well as within 6" of the battery connection just to further protect the amplifier. Usually a 40-50amp fuse here will do the job and it is not absolutely necessary but highly recommended. Fused distribution blocks originated for this reason
