Interesting question; I was considering using aluminum as the facade for my amp rack, instead of carpeted MDF. Something like this:

Seems pretty simple. Dimensions would be 43" wide, 10" deep, only about 2" tall. However, it would have to have cutouts for the amps. Possible?

Almost anything is possible if you are willing to put forth the time, effort, and money! 
Find a local metal worker and ask him about it. I remember as kid my brother found a metal worker who made us a real sword and a real dagger that we gave away as prizes in a AD&D tournament.

D&D is Dungeons and Dragons. 
The cheap stuff.
AD&D is Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. The expensive stuff.
D&D was mostly paperback comic quality stuff the little kids played, if I remember correctly... the AD&D stuff was lengthy, hardback, detailed books and rule systems for us more "mature" players. LOL
