Default advice: radar detectors

It's been about 10 yrs since I owned one. Didn't work very well. Are they worth the investment? Any that actually work for highway driving? Advice much appreciated. Thanks.undefined

Default v1?

V!? Manuf? Do they work on the highway? How confident can one be while driving with one. Your experience.

Thanks!

try a search, theres a lot of threads on this.

general consensus goes for the V1 or the escort 8500.

the people who use V1's usually like their directional arrows, but everyone has their different preferences.

The choices I have seen have come down to these 2 and the difference between the 2 have been the arrows and how they phyiscally look. Some people dont like the look of the V1, and others like the arrows of the V1. It comes down to what you like. From what I have read both can be hardwired into the car, i believe. I can be wrong about that.

my V1 has saved me a few times.... and really thats all you can ask for out of a detector.... to just cut down on the # of chances you have of getting a ticket.......pretty much gonna be a valentine 1/escort split for best detector

DPG, you are correct. Both can be hardwired.
IMO, yes they are useful tool, esp. on the highway. Yet, like any tool, they have to be used correctly. If you are alone on the road, don't speed.
Next to nothing will prevent tickets from an unmarked car or airplane

Some of you may remember a company called K40? I have had their radar detectors for years and even sold and installed them some time ago. I have driven extensively with everything high end(Escort, Valentine, BEL, etc.) and the K40 is by far[B]the best I have ever seen. Plus they are undetectable, and based on the fact that there is no bulky display, they are truly stealth. You could tell an officer you had a radar detector and they probably still wouldn't find it, if installed properly. Ridiculous range with next to no falsing on k, ka, and laser bands.Just my $.02
