Well I have decided to go ahead on a new stereo and want to see if anyone has any input. I have installed plenty of stereos but am a little intimidated about the JL Clean Sweep install, anyone done this thereselves? Here's what I am going with.
HU: Stock HU (w/LED mod) JL CLean Sweep to clean it up. May go with Mcintosh MX406 later on or Nakamichi CD700
Front Speakers: Diamond Audio D661S
Rear: Gone
SUB: Image Dynamics IDQ12D2 V.2 in SUBTHUMP Stealth Box
Front Amp: XTANT 4180C 45 x 4 @4 OHM
SUB Amp: XTANT 320 A 300 x 1 @4 OHM
COWBOY Insulation Kit
I am eventually going to upgrade the head unit but I am hoping the sound quality will be okay for the time being. The Diamonds are also a temp fix as I really like the FOCALS I had them in my truck and they were great. My real question is the amps, I have heard them and I liked them but these are the first I've owned anyone have any experience with these? Also I grew up on Phoenix Gold, A/D/S, Linear Power, Autotek (when they were good) any comparison to the XTANT? Thanks for any input good, bad or whatever.
I currently own an xtant 603x and love it (even though i'm selling it ), it sounds nicer then my previous pheonix gold zx475 amp.
i would strongly advise to dynamat the doors in addition to cowboy's insulation kit.
the sub is the same one i have as well and it's awesome for the price. wont get you w7 performance but you are spending a fraction of what the w7 goes for.
I run Xtant amps in my WRX and their sound quality for the price is quite good. I think you will be happy, although Xtant to Mcintosh is kinda apples to oranges.
I know that those HU's are spendy but I am wondering why you would not just bypass the expense of the Clean sweep and put that money towards the HU from the outset? Hell you could pick up an Eclipse 8053 for under $350 new with a 24bit DAC and built in 13 band PEQ and 3 way crossover. (I also know of a source for a few new ones remaining if you want) Simpleman was selling his used one as well.
I agree with Scott throw some Dynamat extreme or equivalent in the doors for your components. I used Elemental Designs Edead V3 liquid deadener in my cabin (with Cowboy's kit) and throughout my doors with some Dynamat Extreme and I am quite happy.
Well I appreciate your input, I am going to dynamat the doors for sure. I just read a few articles on it had one question? How hard is the liquid deadener to use, sounds messy. As far as the head unit I may catch hell for saying this but I like it? I don't know why but I just haven't found another head unit that I like the look of installed in the Z. I guess the search continues for that. Anyway thanks again for the input and I'll post pictures when I get a chance to install it all.
If you like the headunit then the cleansweep is the way to go. The sound deadener is pretty easy to use, just buy yourself a brush and dip away and paint it on. Dries in a few hours to a day or so depending upon temperature. No odor. DPG had a nice write up on his install for the liquid stuff. A nice thick coat made a difference in my car for sure.
If you want a little noise reduction + heat reduction Crazy Cowboy has a nice precut kit that works well in our cars.
Hi, just thought I'd put my 2 cents in. Pioneer just came out with a new 12" sub with a recessed magnet. This is what I'll be putting in my 2000. Mounting depth is 3 3/4", and yes it is bad. I know the big thing is to go with certain names, but I have had a lot of them and heard what I hav'nt owned and I go with what sounds good. I just put this Pioneer TS-SW124D sub with a Pioneer GM-7200M mono, 6 TS-6880R 6x8 and a GM 6200F 4 ch.amp in my wifes Excursion and its about the best sounding system I've heard thats limited to 6x8 speakers. The sub and amp is not available at the chain stores, only at car stereo shops. Check it out.
pioneer premier had a sub last year that got amazing reviews, they were comparing it to the w7 (though they said it didn't sound as great to the w7 but for the price it was unbeatable) The model no is: TS-W3004SPL i think...and it goes for under $130. i dont think it'll quite fit in a stealth box so you may need to get a little creative (or have subthump get creative) but it's doable

Well that is what I was going to originally run was the premier 12", I used to run two premier 10"s in high school and they were great. The only real reason I didn't this time was the mounting depth, and I am a little scared of that slim 12" Premier has out. Thanks for the advice though, I am going to try Image Dynamics if I don't like it I'll probably go with the Premier. Thanks A lot guys
