Started D1 avic install!
I have been working on the console to make it the correct size to fit the screen in the dash. I have followed the instructions of many on this forum and so far the guidance has been a BIG help!
The bigest problem is getting covered in bondo! All the sanding is also a nightmare but who ever Mr. Dremmil is thank you for your invention.
One thing I may try to make a better fitting install is to "build" the opening a littel bigger than the size of the plastic bezel that came with the unit. That way I think I can make the install look like the AC controls that are below the HU. The thought is to maove the HU back about 1/8" inside the frame in the dash and put the bezel behind the console so that there is no space showing from the front.
I dont know if this is going to work but I hope to update with pics next week.
If this works it may help others trying to do the same install!
thanks,

have fun, take your time...
make sure you really reinforces the back with epoxy and maybe even some sort of matting or other type of reinforcement. The bondo isn't going to 'bond' with the plastic and if bends too much you'll see stress cracks.
