I need everyone's help. My '99 Grand Prix is dead in the driveway. I think the aftermarket remote start & alarm may be to blame. The guy who owned the car before me gave the dealer no documents concerning the system. I ripped it out from under the console yesterday and it appears to be a Crimestopper CM-3000 system.
Some of the symptoms....
1. The keyfob doesn't do anything. (The OEM keyfob works for doors/trunk still)
2. The car won't start (all other systems seem ok)
3. The windows roll down when the key is turned on. You could roll down and up the front windows with the keyfob.
I'd be happy just to re-wire the starter at this point to work again so I can drive the car. I'm trying to find out if this thing was wired in series or parallel to the ignition key for the starter circuit.
Does anyone have an install guide or access to one? I've emailed crimestopper as they do not have this on online at www.crimestopper.com . Thanks!
See if they have a pdf file to download the directions to the alarm and try and reprogram the remote? Been a while since I was concerned with alarms but in the old days a no start car like that you could pull the fuse from the power wire to the alarm, disconnect the battery for say 10 minutes, reconnect the battery and reinstall the fuse. The alarm would usually go off when you put the fuse back in and then you could use the "hidden" valet switch to turn it off (usually along with the key in the ignition) and get it to work normally. Again this was a while ago so not sure how it works with the new stuff.
Well thankfully while digging around under the dash I found a bypass switch that was installed in the center console. The car is running and behaving "OEM" right now. I like having the remote start though, so I'll have to look into fixing/replacing the unit.
