I would love to add all this stuff you guys are doing to your vettes, however, I don't want to add any extra weight to my vehicle. Some of these subs, amps and enclosures could add a good 40+ lbs (more or less). Granted these are some kick *** systems and I'm sure you guys are enjoying your sound. More power to you enjoy 'em.

What I would like to do is replace all OEM speakers (and keep the OEM Head Unit) with some quality stuff. I wouldn't mind going with 8 inch midlevel woofers in the doors (or subs if they are available for the door location).

Can those that have done this chime in with some reviews of their set ups. I've looked and looked and can't find to many posts that address what I like to do with exact speaker recomendations. Most of what I find is of the type that tell you to replace the 3.5 inch twiddlers and the rears with something better.

Can more of you chime in with more details.

Matt

if you are going to the trouble of replacing all the speakers...do yourself a favor and get a nice HU.

nice set of 6.5" components up front...or a 3-way system.

smaller set of components for rear fill and a sub. all of this could be powered with one amplifier. the only change in weight is the amplifier. probably not much of a change.

The weight you add to your car....you have to lose...so it is sort of a "Corvette Diet" if you will. It'll balance out.

Replace the HU and door speakers. A nice 3-way set up in the doors will be a improvement over the Bose. Chuck the rears into the garbage.
If anything, you might lose a few pounds this way

my system only added a few pounds

I am in the process of designing a system that can be easily be removed before a race, and put back in car in less than 2 minutes.
It's a removable amp rack with quick disconnects.
This way I get the best of both worlds as I enjoy racing a lot.

I can pull my sub/box and tape up 2 wires and loose 35lbs in about 3 minutes from mine (which I plan on doing for a couple autox this spring/summer). The amp and speakers I added might be another 20lbs or so but hey I weigh 180lbs which means I have an advantage on the average vette driver already

If you are concerned about weight get a nice HU with decent power output (at least 18w rms per channel) a set of components for the front (probably for your appplication an 8"/tweet set) and a set of coaxials in the rear and call it good. You will not have "bass" that is anywhere near substantial but it will sound a hell of a lot better than the stock blose crap.
