Ok, well I have an MSD6-AL installed and, despite the capacitor it is run off of, it makes a hell of a lot of noise in my speakers. Right now I'm using ground loop isolators to get rid of this, but my pride in my system is the frequency response it has and I don't wanna lose those frequencies for music... What I was thinking about doing is installing a capacitor between the positive and negative lines going to the radio and trying to smooth out the incoming power, but all I found was this. Now call me silly, but all that is is a capacitor, most likely a buck if that at Radio Shack. How many microfarads do you recommend I put on that line to smooth out the noise (I'm not using the internal amp, its disabled so there's not that much power drawn). To save time I wired the RCA cables on the opposite side of the car than the power wires and they're twisted pair to boot so they're not the issue. Also the ground loop isolators significantly decrease the sound...
Have you checked out the grounds for your amp(s) and that the HU is getting a good ground? Although I have run into a bunch of noise caused from MSD boxes etc in other systems. G'luck man doubt I helped any
The amps are run straight to the battery for both power and ground (2 gauge up and 4 gauge back. Should be sufficient for under 1100w I think, regardless the amp is currently only 754w peak). The head unit, however, is stock wiring. I am considering wiring it as well straight to the battery (I used those nice Monster battery posts which make this nice and easy :-) ). Won't stock wiring provide similar results though?
Do me a favor before you rewire anything else. Disconnect your ground wire that runs back to the battery and try a nice, well cleaned metal area within say 18-24" of your amp location and see if that helps any. I personally have never liked the "back to the battery" method for grounding purposes as I have run into noise problems with other systems doing this in the past. Might work, might not but worth a try.
that looks like a pretty big cap actually. based on the comparison to the ring terminals it's a mini *****! I'm not sure if that price is all that bad really.
It seems large, I'm somewhat considering buying it. I'll try to find a good metal point to ground to, but in a C4 the common solution is the seat mounts and I don't want any wires to be seen anywhere. I've been trying my best to avoid running cables inside the cabin, but I've got some spare 4 gauge, I'll give it a try...
Well the thing is when I put on these ground loop isolators the sound is almost eliminated making me think that the signal could only be coming from the front...
If they are resistor plugs they should have an R in the part #. Some people put non res. plugs in for performance. Which actually doesn't give you much. R plugs will help kill primary ignition noises.
