I usually like to do things myself and having had someone else install my subwoofers and amp doesnt sit too well with me. So... Ive decided I want to play with the amp settings after I get some words of wisdom from the experts. I can control five *****:
subsonic (15Hz-35Hz)
low pass(35Hz-250Hz)
phase (0-180)
bass eq (0db-18db) - currently set to maximum
level (9V-0.2V) - i think thats the gain
What should go where to get the best sounds? Or if thats over simplifying, whats the flow chart on how to get to the perfect setting given I have control over these five things? Thanks a lot.
What HU? What front speakers? Fronts amplified or not? What sub? What amp? What box?
First thing, cut that bass eq to at least half, it adds bass but also adds distortion, kinda like a "loud" button on a HU.
Phase 0-180
Phase 0 = normal signal arrival time and playback
Phase 180 = signal slightly delayed to improve arrival time at the listner, usually slightly less bass response. (both generalities)
Level does = gain. .2 is maximum. Maximum = bad. Somewhere between minimum and about 50% is as far as I like to go on sub gains. Mine currently is at about 10% with +12 to -12db of adjustment (not boost) available.
Answer a few questions and we can get you tuned up bro.
Thanks bro, I didnt even think of giving that info. Its a stock Nav headunit with the Bose system in a C6. Everything is stock except the two subs and the amp. Theyre two JL 10W3s powered with a hifonics brutus amp in a sealed box. Theres also a bass **** that controls the amplifier. The headunits bass control seems to only be controlling the stock speakers. Im looking forward to setting it the way I want, once I find out how. Thanks.
