I have the JL Audio Slash 500/1 series amp and a Kenwood XXVD01 Deck. The amp has an adapter I can attach a $30.00 bass control to. The headunit also has a Subwoofer +/- 15db control on it. Is one better than the other, technically or is it just a case of using what is most convenient?
Couple varieties of those *****, some function as a portion of the amps gain (say+ or - 8db), some function purely as a "bass boost". The latter generally add distortion and are not quite as good. I would have to guess that the JL variety is the former and would not be a bad option. Not familiar with the kenwood model you have, upper end deck or? If it is lower end probably want to go with the **** for sure.
The deck is part of the Special 25th Anniversary Series they did earlier in the year. According to my installer, it is the best they had to offer...MSRP was $799, I guess. Not sure if that tells you much or not.
I have a Kenwood x889, the model right below your anniversary ed. I have a bass control for my Crossfire amp installed under the dash but find myself using the headunit to control the sub. It's more convenient and I can shut the sub off using the headunit. I'm not an audiophile, but I didn't hear a difference between the two.
Thanks for the input! I am going to get mine set up so that I can play with this on the head unit and see how it goes. Cartoys is also going to loan me the Bass Unit Control so I can compare the two over a few days.
Dude,
That is a great HU for the $$
I didn't know Kenwood made higher end stuff of that quality.
I stumbled on my "Clarion" the same way. Installer told me about how awesome it was and I just laughed out loud until I read the specs
