mine rarely turned on and off with the radio power. I did get the alarm to go off when I unplugged my ipod once when the security light was on. Only once though. As far as the volume, who knows. Maybe it was the interface. I have/had the ipod2car one. It could be that with a different interface that the option to control volume through the ipod isnt possible. You'd have to play around with it. Seems that each one has its own tendancies that you have to figure out and probably live with. I a going with a new HU and going with thei sepcific ipod adapter. Hopefully things will be smoother with this than they were with teh stock HU. Good Luck and enjoy. I know I did. It was one of the best mods ive done even if i didnt have all the control that was promised. Having the ipod right there was good enough for me and I was very happy with it. I dont see why you wouldnt be able to control volume through the ipod with it connected to the dock. Im pretty sure you can when you have the dock connector stand that used to come with the last gen ipod. The dock had a port on the back for a stereo or whatever, and that had had ipod volume functionality. Who knows. Sorry for the long post

DPG,
Going with an aftermarket HU with true iPod integration is the ultimate way to go
There was another thread here regarding the Alpine CD-9857 HU in a Vette; I have that HU in my DD (Ford Probe) and it is the absolute @hit The iPod integration is so sweet and slick man!! In this setup I keep my iPod in the glove box and never have to muck with it. What I love about it is the iPod integration is built into the HU (no external adapter other than an iPod cable). The head unit controls are very nice and track searches are quick! No issues with navigating through playlists, albums, songs, etc. Nor with power off/on
But I didn't want to ditch the AC Delco/Bose system in my Vette just yet maybe down the road

There are three primary reasons I've decided to stay with the stock HU for the foreseeable future:
1. Despite all the bad comments, I think the Bose sounds pretty damned good for a "stock" system and stockers are less likely to be targeted for theft.
2. My car is a vert, making it an even easier target, plus, I CANNOT live without the auto volume level feature. I love it.
3. I recently spent about three grand modding the interior of my wife's driver (Jag S Type) with the Eclipse 5495 and I'm done with that kind of stuff for now. If the opening in the C5 was either a single or double DIN setup (none of this whack 1.5 DIN business requiring pricey or time consuming bezel mods) I might be more tempted.
Theft is a huge issue. I wasnt going to upgrade my HU until I broke the lights in it trying to convert it to blue LED. It works fine, minus the lights at night. Just someones way of telling me it was time to upgrade
I also have a tinted Z and I usually dont leave the windows open when I leave to run into the store or anything. Hopefully i wont attract any thefts. But i guess thats what insurance is for. I heard good things about the eclipse ipod control, so I cant wait for that. Hopefully sunday we'll have pics for you guys with the new HU.

I'm curious about the Eclipse I-Pod adapter, but with an onboard 30 gig drive and basically "built-in" i-pod, I sort of question the need for throwing any more money at Eclipse at this point.
I'm still trying to wade through the idiosyncracies of my new I-Pod set up. I have the I-Pod set to shuffle songs, but find that if I press the forward button to skip to the next song -- if I do that, say five times in a row, instead of advancing to the next random song as it should, it "cycles" through the same 5 previous songs that I didn't want to hear to begin with and the only way to break out of the loop is to hit the FWD button on the I-Pod itself in rapid succession. WTF is up with that???
