Default 1990 Bose Gold speaker replacement

Looking for some pics or advice on how to adapt aftermarked speakers into my 90. I took out the back Bose units and the hole is so much larger than a 6x9. The fronts look like you would have to build a special mount to fit the recess. Also if any body install an amp where did you put it. I am planning to replace every thing head unit to speakers

fitting 6x9s is rather easy... just cut up the plastic panels and fit in a wooden baffle.

As for the front, you can remove the drivers from the bose enclosure and fit a 5.25" driver.

It may require cutting out the back panel to buy some more space.

Here's a picture of my 5 1/4" infinity Kappa components installed in my "91". I just cut out the center of the plastic speaker box to accommodate the new speakers and then screwed the fiberboard to the stock speaker enclosure.

I mounted the amp against the back wall of the cargo area screwed to a backer board but, a lot of people mount the amp on a carpeted board on top of the storage hatches.

Thanks for the pics. Couple of questions what is the unit in the center pic behind the seat and what did you do for the back speakers.

that unit is a "passive crossover." It comes with the speakers. It's what makes component speakers more expensive than coaxials.

It takes the raw amp signal and splits it (much like a manifold) to the tweet and mid-bass.

I removed the rear speakers because rear fill in a C4 Vette is not needed and will change the front soundstage imaging. I just use the component speakers in the front and one subwoofer in the rear.

One more question what head end unit are you using and what kind of mounting did you use when replacing the Bose. Or if any one knows of a place to get new mounting brackets. I can't find any for the vette.

I bought the mounting kit from this site www.installer.com/kits/, scroll towards the bottom and it's part# 99-3051 for 90-96 Vettes. You might also, find this site useful too, www.c4guru.com/articles/HeadUnitRemoval.pdf

I'm using the stock Delco cassette stereo right now but, I'm buying an Alpine 9846 head unit soon. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-wKPb5TG...arch=alpine+cd

there is a phone number inside the C4 Audio FAQ on how to get an install kit for the late C4 dash.

Also, Vrumvrum makes a nice CNC machined aluminum one.
