The installation kit looks perfect !
I will bring this to my dealer's parts dept this week to show that guy that it does exist.
Thanks Again
Alan

Mid-America had exactly what l was looking for and l received it yesterday.
I called the guy who is putting it in and told him that it arrived and he agreed that he will be at my house next Friday to put it in.
This is the big but !!!!!!!
I asked him if l had to pick up the expoxy from my dealership for the back plate and he said that he was going to use l believe some kind of silicone.
Is he taking a short step because it takes the apoxy 20 minutes to dry with a heat gun set to 180 degrees.
Also should l have the guy put a piece of indust foam underneath it to help with the shock vibrations? I have a piece from my radar dect packaging.
Thanks
Alan

the bracket is also pop rivited to the center compartment wall.
foam will do no good, once you bolt the changer to the bracket it will be securely mounted to the body of the car.
question:
why are you having someone put it in for you?
this is a very easy install, you can do it yourself in about 1Hr.

hell, you could always take a ride down here and I'll do it for you for nothing!

Popping out the trim is an art in itself unless one has done this before!
I don't have a rivet gun and never used one. While l believe l have a heat gun l don't have one with a temp gauge to tell me it's set on approx 180 degrees.
And l would buy whatever is needed so it's not about dollars and cents.
Also within the back compartment (the tub) a piece of carpet has to be cut with a carpet knife. Also pieces have to be removed.
At the same time l can ask the audio so called expert how can l improve my system without going for my lungs. Like a speaker change or something like that.
Bottomline is that l don't want to save a .10 and wind up costing me
.25 when all is done.
And believe me the trip down to Galloway is only 1 1/2 hrs drive staying within the speed limits.
What bothers me is that he wants to use something else besides the epoxy which could work also but l have to trust my gut feelings that you are more familiar with vettes then he is.

poping out the trim is nothing!
they are only held in by clips, it's a piece of cake.
you don't need to heat the epoxy to 180 degrees, just put the epoxy on the bracket, and pop rivet it to the rear wall of the center compartment.
the rear carpet just gets a slit in it so the bracket can slide through, and removing the trim is incredibly easy!
this is not brain surgery, just a very basic install.
don't let anybody tell you different.
and, on a '98 there it's a little more involved due to the fact that there is only one plug in the passenger footwell (the "4 wire" plug), the "3 wire" plug is not there, so I needed to hardwire the "3 wire" changer harness plug to the harness behind the fuse panel.
Also, you can change the rear speakers and 3 1/2" door speakers without "going for you lungs".
I installed infinity 505cs component speakers in the rear, and 3 1/2 co-axial speakers in the doors.
the only speakers I didn't touch were the woofers in the doors.
just let me know if you want to take a ride here.

The Mid-America CD kit was perfect. He even took the box so he could order it himself when he does this again.
The only thing l had to do is ask this guys new partner to take off his watch and gold bracelet because l feared he would scratch the car. It wasn't a problem he took both off.
I will load some CD's and enjoy.
Thanks for the morale support and as far as changing the speakers they both told me that l should keep what l have unless l swap out the entire system. And if l want to just change the speakers l would be better off listening to what l want already installed in another vette.
Alan

Alan

not true.
you can change the speakers and get a nice upgrade in sound quality without swapping out the whole system.
I know this from experience.

I read your post, because I want to add a changer to the car I just purchased. According to Mid America's ad:
"No wiring needed because all C5 Corvettes are already wired and ready to go. Just mount the ACDelco 12-disc CD Changer, attach the preinstalled wires, and you are ready for hours of your favorite tunes."
So... I called, and they don't carry just the install kit. And they are out of stock on the Changers with the install kit and have not part number that I could track this down.
Also, if every C5 is prewired for a CD Changer (just like the Trans Ams and Camaros with the Monsoon system), the why did this occure:
"The hardest part was snaking the wires through the passenger side post."
Thanks, Bob

First of all your vette does not have the wires and the snaking of the wires through the passenger post was the hardest part. But the guy used a plastic device which looked like an elongated ice cream stick to do it and then he taped the wire to it.
The kit is found only on line and not in their catalog. In fact the installer took my box with the info on it. If for any reason you cannot find it let me know and l will hunt for the bill.
You will also need a flat plastic knife so that you can get under the moldings to pry them off. I saw this knife on a site called IPD which is really for Volvo's.
If you need any more info let me know.

So, I was curious whether you have the information directly from the install kit box. The receipt info likely won't help me, as it is likely billed as an entire unit... just as it appears online. What I would like is the part number, and any company name or contact info. IF it is a genuine GM part, I should be able to cross reference it with the part number.
IF, and that's a big IF, IF you could scan the box and post a pic I would like to do the same thing you suggested, and take it to my local dealer to show them.
Thanks, Bob
P.S. I still think the factory changer is the way to go.

The installer of my CD changer took the box with him because it had all the info on it. What l can do is get his number and post his name and phone #.
He also had a problem finding it at the local dealerships.
It was a GM/Delco part and it was perfect. If l knew how easy this would be l would have done it myself.

Your last name is Bogus...I would have never guessed that
Anyhow, congrats on the 12 disc install kingman
I will recommend a very cheap upgrade for you that make a improvement on how the Bose system sounds. Get a pair of Infinity 3.5" speakers (approx $50) and replace the 3.5" Blose twiddler in the doors. It is super easy to do, much easier than the changer install. Best wishes

CD changer cable: COR-HAR
Cable and mount kit, GM: 12497876; I went to the local Chevy dealer, and they could not verify.
I believe this is the same kit, commercially avialable:

Why don't you call the guy that took my box, he is a good guy.
His name is Steve Kim (732) 290-1715
And mention my name Alan King and he installed it on my torch red coupe three weeks ago.
