I have had this thing in my car about 4 months. It is in perfect working order and is by far the nicest unit I have ever owned. Does anything you need it to do. This unit really is a all in one. Face flips out and is a 1.5 din, yet when it powers off the face hides in the single din slot. Heres some info on it. Looking to get $350 for it, which is almost half what I paid.
Info:With a FantomFace XL face and brilliant display, the CDA-7897 is one hot head unit! Designed not only for looks, but for high performance, the CDA-7897 includes the Bass Engine® Pro set of features - including Digital Time Correction and Media Xpander. It has 3 pairs of RCA outputs for complete system expansion. The 4V subwoofer preout is a perfect match for the new V12 AccuClass-D mono amplifers. The CDA-7897 is even compatible with XM Satellite Radio- simply add the optional receiver module and you will be enjoying coast-to-coast digital quality radio
I have the 7998, the next step from that unit. The SQ is fantastic from the 7998. I am willing to bet it's equally great from this unit.
A couple of additional bits of info. The 7997 has internal power and a multicolour display. It is also Sirius ready - it will run both XM and Sirius.
One warning, it is a great head unit, no question, but it WILL NOT SUPPORT HD RADIO. Only Alpine head units made for 2006 and up will support HD radio. This is a sucky thing... I hate it...
Bogus- Thanks for the bit of info. It also has something for your cell phone??? I am telling you it does **** I don't even know. What drives me nuts is the EQ. I am a simple man and love bass, treble, mid. This thing has frequencies and tones???
The EQ is interesting... it's somewhere between a bass/treble **** and a true EQ.
The cell phone function was never fully implemented in the States... it was more aimed at the European market. Which was a shame. It only worked with one Nokia phone, the 6310, if I remember rightly.
I investigated it, but the 6310 was being phased out at the time and Alpine was not selling the interface anymore.
The phone interface was rendered obsolete before the unit was 3 months old...
HAHA Glad I never spent a bunch of time on it. When I bought my car it had a Pioneer Premier 8XX and I did a straight swap to this Alpine and instantly heard a big differance. Same speakers and amps which was funny. If I didn't recently get a awesome deal on a Kenwood indash 7" dvd I would not sell. I have a offer right now but I think $350 is a fair price.
I got ur PM reply and I would love to buy it but I thought it over and at the moment I really shouldnt be spending the money. If you have trouble selling let me know cause some ppl at work might be interested
