I was wondering if any of you have the subthump box?If so do any of you have a problem with it making the back panel squeak?I'm having a serious problem with this and i'm looking for solutions before i take it out and make a custom box for my sub....
It is not quite the same, but I had a serious rattle in the plastic that runs along the bottom of the window (right next to the area that a partition would sit). I fixed it with some of Cowboy's insulation kit in there to make it sit tight and it stopped the rattle. I would look around the interior some for rattles unless you know for sure that it is the box itself rattling. If that is the case you should feel some air being pushed from underneath the lip or on box seams.
Did your car have the CD changer in the back. Mine did and I had to cut the mounting bolts off flush with the panel to give the box room to slide down far enough. I had also put Dynamat down and had to pull it back up on the back wall and on also the 2 to 3" lip that goes straight down right after the sloped part that is towards the front of the car. I also cut the factory grey looking mat off at that 2 to 3" lip. The subthump box fits so tight you need all the room you can get.
I have had 2 subthump boxes with no problems. One was the flush mount 10 and the other is for the 12". Both are well built boxes. Hope this helps.
I'm running a 10w3 and no problems here. I put a layer of Fatmat in the back though so that might make a difference, but I doubt it because I had to remove the carpet from around the bottom of the sub box so it would sqeeze into the cargo hold. It's a really tight fit!
When I took the box out,I went run it without the stereo on.I think its the box being to tight that makes it squeak.I can't put my cover back on with the box in the middle compartment.Oh and I don't have the CD changer in the rear anymore..I'l try a few thing's ya'll said and see if they work...Thanks for the responses. The system i have is an Eclipse 8053 deck,Oz Component Matrix 180's fronts,6.5 Co-ax Boston Acoustics behind the seats and 10w3 JL sub....Power is MTX 3404,4 channel amp and a MTX 3401 Mono block amp.
I bet the box is rubbing somewhere, possibly on the CD changer mounting bolts if you didn't cut them off flush with the back wall. Try that and removing the other material as I described in my other post. The box should be recessed about an inch under the cover.
Guys thanks for the info.I got the box fixed. The bolts from the CD changer were in the way and i had to take the factory carpet out where the box fits. Now i can put the center compartment cover on with ease
