I have been doing some research before doing a complete stereo install in my Vette. I have been checking out the ED sound deadener.
Could anyone share some info on the difference between the v1 and the v1SE^2? About the only thing I see is the core is rubber on the v1 and butyl on the v1SE^2. Also the price is higher for the v1SE^2.
SE2 is thicker, has higher heat resistance, and IMO sticks better. Either one will work great for you. I used V1SE2 in my car and would do it again in a hearbeat. Let me know I can get you a 10 or 20% off coupon code for it. Bein in Illinois shipping is like dirt cheap just FYI
That was some darn good info. I spent quite some time reading it. Now I wish there was a independent study of liquid based deadner and sound absorbing products.
I personally used alot of b-quiet ultimate, v-comp, and v-comp. I have purchased ed liquid deadner but haven't used it yet. The b-quiet has made my car allot quieter with absoulty no asphalt smell.
Pentavolvo-
your PMbox is full, but thanks for the info you sent me. I just ordered some of the eDead V1; i'll be sure to post impressions once I get it in.
pentavolvo...could you send me that discount code? Thanks!
RCS128...please do post your impressions once you get it and install it. I'd like to know how well it forms and sticks to the car. Plus how noticeable of an improvement it made. Thanks!
so I take it that it forms to the contours of the car pretty well and sticks in place nicely.
I know I have read Fej say that taking apart the interior is easy enough to do. Could anyone provide guidance on how long it has taken you to strip the car to put in sound deadener? I am torn between just doing the stereo install and doing all the deadener in the winter, or bite the bullet and tear everything apart now.
I just got this car (my first Vette) and really don't want to go long without driving it.
striping the car is easy, just label parts when you take em off. it will make assembly a lot faster. It took me an hour if that to gut the car. Vaccum and wipe everything down so that you have a good clean surface, takes another hr lets say. Let it dry and basically it depends on how long it takes you to apply the deadner. It took me 2 days to apply the deadner because i applied it in dead winter in my garage. Took a long time to dry. Also cure time took longer. Take your time and just go ahead and do the deadner of your choice, take your time. It'll be worth it. Especially with a cooler cabin because of the extra insulation from your exhaust.
oh and on the passenger side, dont break the little vent that it on the tunnel side. I broke mine and didnt realize it till I was putting it back together. I still have to get a new piece for that.
it should be a simple weekend project. i didnt use the liquid and i could have done the whole car, minus the doors in one day. (if i didnt get a late start i could have done the whole car i think) it's best to do the deadening when you are doing your install. this way you can run the wires under the carpet for a totally clean install.
Thanks DPG and Scott....sounds like it is pretty quick to gut the car. I figured it would be much harder than that. I'll have to do some searching to see what all has to come out to get to the carpet (I'm thinking seats and center console at least).
I agree that it would be best to do it while doing the install. I suppose I can suffer not driving the car for a couple days while doing the install. I know the end results will be better.
to get to the carpet you remove
--center console( a whopping 4 bolts and 3 screws).
-- the seats(total of 8 bolts) and the power for the seat functions
--remove the top seat belt mounts(2 bolts)
--remove the door jam plastics(just pull up on it)
-- the door panels(2 screws behind the door pulls, then its pop the reflector out and stick your hand in there and pull)
Just make sure you label all the bolts and screws you take out.
Duramax Dave did you get my PM with the code, I thought I sent it to you. It countours extremely easy, cut into decent size pieces and lay it down but get a wooden roller to mush it down so much easier. I wiped the car down with rubbing alcohol before i laid it down
