Over the next few days I am gonna be installing a CD player in a C5, generally when I do a c5 I am replacing everything, or adding amps etc. With this I will be installing the new headunit but retaing factory bose. Now the owner already has aftermarket subs and amp so we do not want to retain the stock subs so can I just use a standard GM harness to wire this up and retain the factory twidlers and the rear coaxials or is a rewire of them necesary. I get conflicting info over this and I sware I have done this before and it worked fine.
Cliffnote version: can a standard gm harness be used to replace deck in C5 vette and keep stock twidlers and rear coaxials (yes I know I need to pick up switched 12v from fuse box)
wow... life would be much easier if the owner would unass a few more bucks and make it easier on you.
Hey now:o I wish I could dish out the extra cash on speakers
We figured that since ive got the 2 10s the bose subs wouldnt be needed anymore. Also may make it easier to wire up since we dont have to worry about the powered bose subs. Believe me guys, if I had the money I would dish it out on some speakers. But I also dont feel like dishing out an extra 80 bucks to just make the bose subs work either. Baby steps here for me
hmmm... i wonder how much a single boston acoustic 6.5" coaxial would cost? I have one brand new one just sitting in my room, you can have it if you can find it's partner. I'll try to remember to get the model # for you tonight.
Thanks scott. but i cant find just one anywhere. Im finding pairs everywhere. If you dont mind me asking, why do you have one? oh and what the hell are you doing up so late
I am thinking we will be fine for the time being. Why get that stupid bose adapter if we dont have to especially if there is plans for compoennts ran off the amp later on. Dave I dont think sunday will work with the poor weather and i have 2 garage queens in the garage right now so if its crappy out it leaves us outside in the rain but ill give you a call sometime tomorrow or call me or something.
heh...lets call it lazy. when i had my rx-7 i had blown a a speaker and it annoyed the #$%@ out of me. so i quickly picked up the ba's but only had enough time to swap in one. It was during high production/delivery time so i was working 12+ hr/days 6 days a week. the last thing i wanted to do was work on the car.... well one thing led to another and i ended up selling the car forgetting that i hadn't installed the second speaker. so there you have it...i have one speaker now
Haha very nice, I can see how that would happen easily. And Dave I actually think I have a pair of 6.5 coaxs around here nothing special that you could use for a while till u got compoenents if need be kenwoods I think.
Cool cool. I'll think about the 2 choices. i wil do components eventually just not now. Also Greg, if you want to work on it at my house we can in my garage.
Scott that is actually a damn good idea and might just be a better option that replacing just the twiddlers. I bet an enterprising person could fab up a drop in mount that adapts into the 8" factory hole and you can just drop a 6.5" coaxial in there and run it from the twiddler channels from the HU. My only question would be I wonder what frequency range the blose HU sends to those 3.5's ... hmm

Could be faq worthy

this is why you guys run the show here. SO much knowledge
Ok guys....let me know what you think of this idea. Just as a temporary fix for no subs in the doors. How about pulling the rear speakers and pulling the subs from the doors, then just making a quick mounting plate out of mdf or whatever and putting the rear in the door? I know this is meek at best. But how about just a temporary until components time comes along?
