I just installed a Pioneer DEH-P47DH CD player in my 85 coupe and the illimination is suppose to dim when I have the lights on and dim the dash lights. I do have the (lights to instrament panel)gray wire hooked to the (radio illumination wire )orange wire and Dim turned on in the radio program but the lights still do not dim. Anyone have any ideas??I did use a wiring harness and followed the instruction. I'm sure it is wired right just think I may have to find a different source for the illumination. :cry
It sounds like you have it wired correctly. Test the radio if you've tested the wires. The radio will dim if there is a +12 volt added to the dim wire. Turn the car on, and tap the dim wire to the +12 volt constant wire and see if the radio dims. If it doesn't, you know its the deck. If it does, retest the wire to make sure that the wire you've hooked into goes live when you turn on the lights.

I just installed a Kenwood in mine and I'm having the same problem! Also, hooked to the grey wire for illumination, and used a harness adapter. WTF? The worst part is now I notice the speedo showing SYS when I first start the car up. It keeps flashing SYS until it warms up. What causes this?
I'll try this and see what happens. Sounds logical since the brown wire is coming from the light switch. This radio apparently needs this type of input. Thanks
